Karate

Karate is part of the FISU calendar since 1998, when the first event was held in France. The second edition took place in 2000 in Kyoto, Japan, with 36 countries represented. The great success of participation and the high competitive level created new opportunities for the sport within FISU. The extraordinary interest in the Karate events propelled the event to the forefront regarding participant numbers.

The 2018 the event returned to Karate’s homeland for the second time in FISU history, being hosted in Kobe, Japan. The 2020 edition was scheduled to take place in Brasília, Brazil, but was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The subsequent event was held in Samsun, Türkiye, in 2022, following the easing of pandemic restrictions.
