Iran and Canada Lead Wrestling Medal Haul at Brasília 2026 FISU World University Championship Combat Sports

The wrestling competition at the Brasília 2026 FISU World University Championship Combat Sports concluded on Friday (12), following five days of intense competition that brought together some of the world’s best university wrestlers.
Athletes from across the globe battled for medals in men’s freestyle, women’s wrestling and Greco-Roman disciplines, delivering high-quality performances throughout the championship. The event once again demonstrated the strength of university sport as a pathway for elite athletes pursuing success on the international stage.
Iran finished as the most successful nation in the tournament, claiming the team titles in both men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Canada topped the women’s team standings after a series of strong performances across multiple weight categories. Host nation Brazil also celebrated memorable results, with several athletes reaching the podium and two home victories in front of enthusiastic local supporters.
The wrestling programme represented another important chapter of the Brasília 2026 FISU World University Championship Combat Sports, showcasing emerging talent and reinforcing the championship’s role in the development of future international stars.
